Dental Procedures

Cedar Hills offers a full line of quality dental procedures.

Tooth-colored Fillings and Bonding – Placed in a single visit:

  • There are many different types of filling materials available today in dentistry.  The most common filling material we use in our office is “Composite Resin” for front and back teeth.  Composite fillings are very esthetic (natural-looking), and they come in a variety of shades to allow Dr. Sutton to customize the shade to each patient.  Composite fillings also provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure.  They are “bonded” or adhesively held in a cavity, often allowing Dr. Sutton to make a more conservative repair to the tooth.

Dental Sealants – Prevent Cavities:

  • One of the best methods of controlling cavities on the chewing surfaces of posterior teeth in children and adults is by sealing pits and fissures our toothbrush cannot properly cleanse.  This is a simple preventative procedure provided by Dr. Sutton and his staff usually when a child’s permanent molars first erupt into their mouth to seal out decay before it starts.  If the grooves on a patient’s teeth have already started to pick up stain, but are not yet cavities, Dr. Sutton will carefully remove the stain (usually no anesthetic is needed) prior to placing a sealant.

Crowns:

  • When a healthy or root canal-treated tooth is weakened or broken down to the point that a filling cannot provide enough strength for a reliable restoration, a crown is often chosen.  There are four main types of crowns we use in our office:  All Porcelain Crowns, Lava (Porcelain Fused to Zirconium), Porcelain Fused To Metal Crowns, and Gold Crowns.  Many factors are used to determine which crown type is recommended for individual patients’ needs to include esthetics, metal allergies/sensitivities, location in the mouth, space availability, etc.  We will discuss these options with you to provide natural-looking, long-lasting restorations.   Our crowns come with a 5-year warranty.

Dental Implants – A fixed replacement for missing teeth (cannot be removed by a patient):

  • “Replacement Teeth” for single or multiple missing teeth.  When a tooth is broken down beyond repair, it can often be extracted and replaced with a Dental Implant.  In many cases, an implant can be placed the same day a tooth is extracted.  Sometimes a patient must await healing of an extraction site or have a bone graft to provide a more stable and esthetic result.  The implant is a surgically-placed post (titanium) that replaces the missing tooth root.  Dr. Sutton will provide you with a temporary tooth to wear in the space over the implant until the implant has healed adequately.  After healing, he will secure a permanent crown to the implant that seeks to mimic your original tooth shape and shade.  This type of restoration looks natural and feels very secure; it can be brushed and flossed just like a natural tooth.
  • Implants are also useful for “Snap-on” Denture Attachments for improved denture stability
  • Dr. Sutton will help you determine if you are a good candidate for dental implant(s).  He works closely with Oral Surgery and Periodontal Specialists to ensure your implant is placed ideally and provides an esthetic result.

Bridges: – Replacing missing teeth:

  • Bridges can be placed on natural teeth or on implants to replace missing teeth.  A bridge is “fixed” and cannot be removed by a patient.  Some people are not good candidates for implants when a tooth is missing (i.e. implants require surgery, patients must be in good health, have healthy gums and bone, etc.) or they simply desire a bridge instead.  There are three main types of bridges we use:  Lava (Porcelain fused to Zirconium), Porcelain Fused to Metal, and Gold.  Many factors are used to determine which bridge type is recommended for individual patients’ needs to include esthetics, metal allergies/sensitivities, location in the mouth, space availability, etc.  We will discuss these options with you to provide natural- looking, long-lasting restorations.   Our bridges come with a 5-year warranty.
